Obituary

BLUE MOUNDS - It is with great sadness that the family of Steven James Convery announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, at his home in Blue Mounds, Wis. He was born to parents, Cecil “Bob” and Meryl (Eggins) Convery on June 15, 1977, in Lismore, New South Wales in Australia.

Steven graduated in 1996 from Richmond River High School in Lismore, Australia. Always eager to learn, Steven would strike up conversations with older people he met and ask them what they would do differently if they could go back in time. He kept hearing the same advice. I wish I would have traveled when I was your age. So that is exactly what he did! He took the money he had earned picking macadamia nuts and traveled. He spent time in Japan and the United States until he ran out of money and headed back home to Australia.

It didn’t take long for him to decide that he wanted to go live in America. He longed for its many opportunities, and in 1997, he moved to North Carolina. There he graduated from GTCC (Guilford Technical Community College) with an associate degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. In 2002 moved up to Wisconsin to begin his Web Designer career path.

Steven married his best friend and love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Anne (Schuette) Convery, on Sept. 29, 2007, at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, Wis. They purchased their home in Blue Mounds a year later and soon began their family. First came Hannah, just days before Christmas, and Grace followed, 4 ½ years later. Steven was a HUGE Star Wars fan and was very excited that his little girl was born on May 4; which in Star Wars terms means “May the 4th be with you!” When his daughters got old enough, Steven bought himself a LEGO AT-AT Walker to build together with his girls. Steven has stated on his personal website, “Steven Convery, Australian in Wisconsin, hot husband, crazy dad, creative web developer and total geek. That sounds entertaining.” Steven had a larger-than-life personality and would light up the room with his smile and loud laugh. He was an avid coffee drinker and taught his girls just how to make his coffee at Kwik Trip. In addition to collecting everything Star Wars, he also collected coins and stamps. Next to his wife and girlfriend, Kathy, his greatest love and joy was his daughters. His devotion, love, and involvement in his daughter’s lives was unparalleled!

Left to honor his memory is his wife of 15 years, Kathy; daughters, Hannah and Grace; mum, Meryl Convery; siblings, Ron McLady, Alan (Hilary) Convery and Barry Convery; in-laws, Doug and Deb Schuette; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Convery; and all his grandparents.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations are made to his children’s education fund.

The family wishes to thank their neighbors, Mount Horeb EMTs, Immanuel Lutheran Church and the community for all of their love and support.

Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

You always knew when Steve had entered the building at Little Vikings to pick up the girls! His personality was huge, and that light will be greatly missed by many. Kathy, thinking of you and the girls!

I'm his nephew Lucas Melton and I remember visiting going around the neighborhood and downtown seeing hundreds of gnomes and trolls and walking miles around Madison seeing the badger statues with the family and my brother and he would not stop making us laugh about owning a fire truck and being able to park it any where it seemed so weird at the time to joke over owning the fire truck but it was the funniest memory apart from all the other great memories we he together. I love you uncle Steven.

An extensive but simple time of sharing is being prepared for Steven's funeral by Alan and Barry who intend to record a tag team review of Steven's life and memories from Australia. Steven's mother will not be able to share her memories due to the onset of dementia, An accurate account for Mums memories will be included with Steven's brothers tributes. An array of Australian photos is being digitised by Alisha Maguire, Alan's daughter. If required anyone could have digital photos sent if required after the funeral.
