COTTAGE GROVE - Helen C. Himrich, age 85, of Cottage Grove, WI., passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Sept. 6, 1937, in Kingsbury County, S.D., the daughter of Carl and Clara (Rosel) Severson.
Helen married John Henry Lovell Himrich on June 5, 1960, divorcing in 1988. She was a schoolteacher, then later worked as a business owner/manager for Himrich's Candies, Cards and Gifts. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, fancy cookie decorating, rosemaling, macrame and reading.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Cara (Tim) Musick; son, Edward Himrich; granddaughter, Clarice “Katie” Musick; and sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Severson and Marcene Severson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara Severson; five older brothers: Melvin, Norman, Elmer, LeRoy and Curt; and seven older sisters: Evelyn, Elsie, Lorraine, Betty, Dora, Maxine, and one sister who died as an infant.
A memorial service will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, WI., at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, with Pastor Jeff VandenHuevel presiding. There will be a Visitation with picture and urn viewing from 3 p.m. until the time of the service, and a dinner following the service. Burial will be held at a future date in Lake Preston, S.D., in spring/summer 2023.
