Obituary

MADISON - Delores Shirley Frome passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023. She was born on July 25, 1938, in Olga, N.D. She was the daughter of Adelard and Alexina Lepire.

Delores grew up on the family farm where she attended a one-room elementary schoolhouse and helped with farm chores. Later she moved to Park River, N.D., to attend high school at Walsh County Agricultural and Training School. After graduating, Delores moved to Grand Forks, N.D., took business classes and worked at First National Bank of Grand Forks. She met her husband, Jim, on a blind date, and it was love at first sight.

Delores was married to the love of her life, James “Jim” Frome, on April 28, 1962, at St. Michael’s Church in Grand Forks. During their 60 years together, Jim and Delores lived in Germany, California, Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Delores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and the accountant in the family restaurant business. Later she worked as a bookkeeper at Prior Lake State Bank.

Delores sprinkled her deep faith on everything she did. She welcomed all into her home and went the extra mile to make celebrations special. Christmas Day activities concluded with Delores directing and costuming the grandchildren in her rendition of “The Christmas Pageant.”

Delores was involved with social activities, including The 9Hers, bowling leagues, reading clubs and Bible studies. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved gardening, reading and traveling with Jim. Delores was an excellent cook and baker.

Delores was active in many charitable organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Sigma Phi Beta, Alpha Women's Shelter, and Rosary Makers of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Prior Lake, Minn., and Christ the King Catholic Church in McFarland, Wis. She crafted more than 12,000 rosaries that were distributed worldwide.

Delores is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jim (Michele), Colleen (Juan), Kathleen (Todd), Elizabeth (Jason) and Stephanie (Paul); grandchildren, Patrick (Kayla), Juan, Frances, Matthew, Ethan, Nicholas, Joseph, Margaret, Gordon, James, Maria, Catherine, Olivia, Lydia and Dominic; and siblings, Gary (Peggy) Lepire, Donna (Jim) Reller and Margie (Chuck) Gilespie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adelard and Alexina; and sisters, Elaine Darling and Joyce Johnson.

The family would like to thank Father Droessler and staff, Catholic Charities, BrightStar and Agrace HospiceCare for their care, guidance, and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. She joined in the hoot and hollering with everyone .she was best acting out sherades .she will be missed!

Aunt Delores and Uncle Jimmy were an ideal example of the blessings of the sacrament of marriage that we should all hope to observe. Through the combined spiritual strength of Delores’s and Jimmy’s bond, they persevered with unending hope through their difficult times. I will always remember Delores’s smiling and accepting face. Jimmy and Delores raised a beautiful family. My prayers are dedicated to prayers for her salvation, sure to come.

From: The Brad and Ronna Johnson family in Bismarck N.D. Stopped into Jim + Delores home in Prior Lake in the late nineties on my way to her sister Margie's lake home in northern Minnesota, with my two young son's Tyler and Travis, and didn't want to leave, she welcomed us into to her home with open arms, and she couldn't wait to show us her beautiful garden and landscaping project her and Jim had devoted so much time to. Her hospitality was inviting we didnt feel like leaving, I believe that's the way she made everyone feel, going to miss her beautiful smile! Thanks for being you.

Mark and I are so sorry for your loss. I first met Delorus at a rosary makers meeting. She was always so cheerful sharing stories of her family and her faith. We have all missed her so much and have talked about her often while getting together making rosaries. Jim, Mark and I always felt you two were such a beautiful example of married life. Delorus talked about you and your life together with so much love and joy. We know she will be welcomed with loving arms into God’s kingdom. We are praying for you and your beautiful family.
