Geralyn Helen Slack

STOUGHTON - Geralyn (Lynch) Slack, age 73, passed from this life to her eternal life on Friday, March 8, 2024. She was born on Aug. 25, 1950, to Humphrey “Jerry” and Alyce Lynch in Monona, Wisconsin. She grew up alongside her younger brother, Joe, and her McCann cousins. After graduation from Edgewood High School, she attended MATC to become a dental hygienist. She practiced for 42 years and was skilled at getting everyone’s life story while cleaning their teeth. She worked for several dental offices starting in Madison, then Southwest Wisconsin; Dubuque, Iowa; Viroqua, Wisconsin; Stoughton, Wisconsin; and ended her career at Madison Family Dental when she retired in 2012.

While attending MATC, Geri met and married John Spensley to which Sheryl and Shane were born. They farmed in Platteville and Darlington until they divorced in 1983. In 1985, Geri received a job offer and moved to Viroqua. While cleaning his teeth, she got to know a kind and quiet farmer named Roger Slack. They married on Aug. 30, 1986. While farming in the Viroqua area, they welcomed two daughters, Alycia and Greta. In May of 1990, the family moved to Stoughton and have resided there for the past 34 years. Besides working, Geri was a dance mom for all of her daughters and a member of the Stoughton Wrestling Club supporting Shane and Greta. She was very active on Christ Lutheran’s education board for 30 years until she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July of 2022.

Geri loved to travel and was fortunate to see all four corners of the United States with her husband, Roger. They enjoyed driving to various destinations and learning about the history of our nation. Geri volunteered her time canvassing and making calls for the Democratic Party, as well as ringing bells for the Salvation Army. She looked forward to her annual girls’ trip to Door County with Mary Ann Welsh and Patti Townsend, as well as having lunch with her team from Madison Family Dental and many other friends she had met along the way. Above all, Geralyn loved and appreciated family and spent much of her time visiting and supporting her and Roger’s many relatives. She was a devoted wife as well as a mom, auntie and friend to many.

Geralyn is survived by her husband, Roger; daughters, Sheryl Spensley (Justin Barak), Alycia Slack, and Greta Slack and her partner, Casey Wachniak; son, Shane Spensley; six fur-grandbabies; her cousins, Patricia (Mike) Hilgers and Johni Stout; her in-laws, Ann Lynch, Eileen (Phil) Batchelor, Gary (Diana) Slack and Lora (Bryan) Brown; and special cousin-in law, Margaret McCann; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Lynch; and cousins, Coleen Erstad, Jerry McCann, and James McCann.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the team at Agrace HospiceCare, Dr. Sam J. Lubner, the staff at the Carbone Cancer Center, and the ER department of UW Hospital for the great care Geri received.

A funeral service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Road B, Stoughton (corner of County Road B and Skyline Drive), at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, with Pastor Paula Geister-Jones and longtime friend and relative, Father Jim Pribek, presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, and also from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
