Obituary

Thomas Joseph Wardell, age 60, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022. He was born on Oct. 26, 1962, the son of Jack and Mary (Ganshert) Wardell.


Tom graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1980. He was an excellent athlete from baseball to hockey. Tom loved the great outdoors, trapping with dad from home to the widespread, duck hunting, deer hunting, and fishing with his partner in crime, Walt. He loved having four bonus sisters, Doreen. Toni, Cheryl and Sheri.


Tom is survived by his sisters, Shaun and Angela; brother, Mike (Gina) Wardell; and niece and nephew, Cheyenne and Wyatt Wardeall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 701 Wisconsin St. Avoca, WI, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, with Monsignor Dan Ganshert (Uncle Dan) presiding. Burial to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at Avoca School, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Growing up in Monona, the Wardells were our next door neighbors and our first friends. I can remember fondly playing kick the can and red light green light in the park. Tom, Walt Rayfield, Todd Dugan, and I used to hunt ALOT together. We always had a good time.
