Obituary

MARSHALL - David J.  Teske, age 71, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, at SSM (St. Mary's Hospital).  He was born on Dec. 1, 1951, in Normandy, Mo., the son of Edwin and Agnes (Fish) Teske.


David earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Missouri University and his master’s degree in Business Administration from UW-Eau Claire.  David had been a Certified Public Procurement Officer, a NIGP Mentor (National Institute for Government Procurement), on the Planning Committee and was awarded the President's Award for the Wisconsin Association for Public Procurement; received honorable mention for the George Cronin Award of Excellence in Public Procurement with NASPO (National Association of State Procurement Officials) and earned the honor of Professional Engineer.  


Over the years, David worked as a Director of Public Works for Cottage Grove, Minn., and Galesville, Wis. He was the Village Administrator for Lake Delton, Wis., and then worked for the UW-Extension, UW-Madison Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, the State of Wisconsin, Department of Administration and retired from the UW-Madison, Department of Facilities Planning and Management.


David enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, canoeing or just spending time relaxing outdoors.


David is survived by his brother, James (Linda) Teske; sister, Marjorie (Rich) Pertzborn; sister-in-law, Michaele Teske; friends, David Allen and Barbara Hoffhein; and many other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Teske.

My first friend at a new grade school, new district, in 3rd grade. We went through Cub and Boy Scouts, Jr and Senior High school in Normandy, Missouri. And we were roommates through most of college at U of Missouri-Rolla. I went to work as an Engineer at General Mills Inc in multiple locations, while Dave went on to get his MBA at U of Wisconsin. But we got together after a few years to become fishing, camping and hiking friends whenever time permitted. Dave and I were different, but we each understood how more the same we were over time. I love him and I miss him already.

I went to Normandy Jr. and Sr. High School with Dave and became better friends with him after joining his scout troop. Had many adventures with him, Jeff Finkel, Jeff Isringhaus, Jim Schaffner and Rick Norber. All of whom we have lost. So sad but I have great memories. Wayne Fritzsche, Wildwood, MO

David was a great neighbor. Many good talks with him. He let my great granddaughter, Esther, pick raspberries from his yard. He also bought her a large pony(not real) for her to play with. It will be hard not seeing him in his yard. He really will be missed. Janet and Bob neighbors to the "South".

Dave and I worked together for a short time at UW-Extension. He was a good man with a heart of gold. After I left Extension we met for lunch once or twice a year to catch up, and solve the world's problems. I'm going to miss those lunches. Rest in peace my friend.

Dave was an incredible friend and cared deeply about the public he served as a professional public purchaser. His contributions and dedication to the Wisconsin Association for Public Procurement helped guide many of us to become certified in the field and to develop the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation between public agencies across the entire State of Wisconsin.
