MADISON - Ann Olley, 61, passed peacefully from this world to the next on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Janesville, Wis., after a short but valiant battle with colorectal cancer. Her cancer, sadly, proved to be too aggressive for the chemo options available.

Ann was born in Madison on Nov. 21, 1961, the daughter of Jerry and Sharon (Paulson) Olley. Ann was a member of the LaFollette High School class of 1979. After excelling at clerical courses at LaFollette, she went to work for the State of Wisconsin as an administrative assistant.

After leaving state work, Ann went to work managing Licali’s Liquor Store in Monona - now O’Connell’s Lakeside Liquor - and remained there until her illness made it impossible to continue working. Ann missed the daily contact with her salespeople, drivers, co-workers, and customers so much.

Ann lived in Madison her entire life, choosing to stay near her parents and her son, despite her dislike of the winters. She loved getting away to Florida for brief winter visits, enjoying the sun and the beautiful gulf waters. Ann loved summer, flowers, animals, her very close friends and extended family members -but more than anything, Ann loved her son, Daniel. He was the light of her life, and always will be.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Daniel O’Brien and his wife, Erin; sisters, Barb (Glenn) Mason and Sue (Scott) White; nephews, Michael (Tiffany Heaver) Mason, Matthew (Sara Snuggerud) Mason and Jacob White; nieces, Christie (Mike) Bauer and Madison White; great-nephews, Ryan Bauer and Mercury Mason Heaver; and great-nieces, Laura Bauer and Phoenix Mason Heaver. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Sharon Olley; and her brother, Paul Steven Olley.

A family interment service will be held next spring.

The family would like to thank Ann’s entire Agrace HospiceCare team, whose loving kindness eased her pain and comforted us so greatly.

Colorectal cancer is known as a ‘silent disease,’ as often there are no symptoms until the cancer has advanced - yet the survival rate in the U.S. is 90% IF detected early with a colonoscopy screening. The current guideline suggests everyone have a colonoscopy at age 45, lowered from age 50 because it is striking younger people. Please get screened - it is an unusual, yet potentially lifesaving way to honor Ann’s memory.
