Obituary

MADISON - Jeffrey “Jeff” J. Faust, age 75, of Madison, was a caring and incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away suddenly on Monday, December 5, 2022, at his home after a long battle with COPD.

Jeff was born on July 5, 1947, to Selma "Sally" (Ahrens) and Wilfred “Jeff” Faust and graduated from Oregon High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice (Lohr), on Jan. 31, 1976.

Known for his Santa-white beard and a penchant for candy canes, Jeff was an incomparable father figure. He was affectionately known as "Pops" to many and was an excellent father to his 3 children; Jamie Faust (Jenifer), Jennifer Horsfall (Jamie), and Jesse Faust (Sharon). In his later years, he would become “Papa” and could be spotted giving his grandchildren rides on his motorized scooter. He continued to be a strong presence for all 6 of his grandchildren; Ethan, Blake, Brooke, and Emma Horsfall and Roman and Piper Faust.

Quite possibly one of the most interesting people to meet, Jeff carried with him a love and passion for many things. As a young man he raised, trained, and showed horses and Norwegian Elkhounds. He also raised skunks as pets and had many over the years. Jeff was a talented woodworker, building onto the family farmhouse and making carpentry his living with his own business, Your Wildest Dreams. Later in life, he acquired a love for the circus and model trains and was a member of the Circus Model Builders Club.

Jeff never wanted any pomp and circumstance and didn’t want any in death either. He enjoyed good people, good times, and good conversation to the fullest. In keeping with his wishes, no formal services will be held, but a raucous celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be gifted in Jeff’s name to the Circus World Museum in Baraboo.

I am so sad to read of Jeff’s death. I think of Jeff frequently - every time I walk down my wooden ramp in our garage. Jeff built this for my husband, Ron, many years ago (in 2000, I think). Ron had ALS and Jeff built this ramp which was a Godsend. Janice, my condolences to you and your family. I remember you as a colleague of Shaf’s and part of that wonderful working group. You are fortunate to have shared so many wonderful years with Jeff. The best to you and your family.
