Matthew S Young

MADISON / MIDDLETON- it is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Matthew S. Young of Middleton inform you of his passing on Friday, December 2, 2022, from cancer. Matthew was surrounded by his family and felt their love through his three-year cancer journey.  He was born on July 1, 1980, in Rockford, Illinois, the loving son of Steven and Mary (Haney) Young. Matt graduated from Madison Memorial High School with the class of 1998. He continued his education at Northland College and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Geology in 2002. One of Matt’s important youth experiences was Camp Manitowish in Northern Wisconsin. The experiences there helped him grow to love the outdoors and water adventure.  He became a Camp Counselor in his high school years.

Matt returned to Madison and spent his career bartending and bar management in the area. It was during one of those jobs that he met and fell in love with his soul mate, Adrienne Kiene.  They became inseparable and were married on September 10, 2010, at their favorite place, Rainbo Lodge outside of Boulder Junction, WI. Rainbo would become their go-to place for fishing, boating in the “Cadillac,” canoeing, hiking and walking their two furry children, Baxter and Nala. The joy they felt together in the quiet north woods was seen by everyone. A favorite time of the year was winter ice fishing when the quiet and serenity would fill their hearts, mainly because they were together.

Matt was smart and funny and enjoyed his profession, most recently at Gates and  Brovi. His gregarious personality served him well; he was loved by other staff members and the customers he touched. People seemed to gravitate to his outgoing, pleasant, personality. Matt was Adrienne’s hero in so many ways. Saving her from the dreaded spiders, as well as his ability to surgically remove hooks from the fish they caught.  She depended on him to keep her safe and secure. And, he depended on her for joy and the love of life.

Matt is survived by his wife, Adrienne; father, Steven Young; brother Michael (Vonnie) Young; nephew, Tate Young; niece, Lola Young; mother-in-law, Vickie Knebel; brother-in-law, Justin Kiene; and his beloved pets, Baxter, Nala, Yodie, Peanut, Twinky, Pookie and Pickel. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Young; maternal grandmother, Eileen Haney; maternal grandfather, Lucian C. Haney; paternal grandmother, Devola Young; and paternal grandfather, Wesley H. Young.

Matt’s love for his wife and his family was strong and he will be so missed by Adrienne, his family and friends, as well as his important furry children. Let us not forget his amazing smile, his wonderfully warm and loving hugs, and his joy of living.
