Obituary

MADISON- Pamela Lynn Schroeder passed away at Sage Meadows Assisted Living in Middleton on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the age of 63. She suffered for the last few years with dementia, losing her battle way too soon. She was born on March 5, 1959, in Madison, the daughter of Alfred and Alta (Schenkel) Schroeder.

Pamela married James O'Brien on Aug. 28, 2004. Her first passion was musical theater. She served as a music teacher for LaFollette High School for many years, directed many musicals, and was involved in youth choirs. As an educator, she took pride and joy in each of her students, their own musical passions, and their post-high school careers. Pam and Jim loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Pam had a kind heart which she shared with everyone she met. Those kind eyes and big hugs will be greatly missed. Pam had a laugh and a welcoming spirit that immediately made you feel happy and comfortable. Even as she struggled with dementia, she could be counted on to be humming a musical tune that immediately reminded you of who she was and why she was so beloved.

Pam is survived by her husband, Jim O’Brien; children, Aaron (Lynea) LaVoy, Adam (Katie) LaVoy and Megan (Kevin) Rowe; eight grandchildren; father, Alfred “Dick” Schroeder; brothers, Rick (Jean Wisener-Schroeder) and Rob; nephew, Riley (Allison); niece, Hilary (Joe) Daufenbach; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alta; her grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pam Schroeder Music Scholarship Fund, Inc. c/o Rick Schroeder, 825 W. Autumn Path Lane, Bayside WI 53217, to benefit LaFollette High School music students.

I am so sorry for your loss. Upon seeing this I immediately went back to the La Follette Alumni Choir Concert from July 2013 when Pam & Rod Witte briefly directed together during The Lord Bless You & Keep You. I hope Pam now has peace. My daughter was in her choirs & I have good memories of conversations about what songs to include in alumni concerts. Pam will always have a place in my heart because of that special & unexplainable La Follette Choir bond, and because of her warm heart. Hugs to you.

Jim and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Pam was one of the most positive teachers I ever worked with at La Follette. Her smile would brighten the halls. She will be missed and be singing wherever the journey takes her. 💜

With great sadness and empathy may I give my condolences to Pam’s family! She is a beautiful spirit, outstanding educator, and genuine person. I was fortunate to teach at La Follette High School with both Pam and her father Al. My son Sam had the privilege of having her as her Choir, and Show Choir for three years. Pam always saw the best in others and got the most from their talents. I’m so sorry for this loss to her treasured family. Blessings and prayers, from my heart to your hearts 💕!!

Pam brought out the best in all of her students, and never stopped believing in any of us. Whether it be showing up before school to lead show choir, ordering pizzas on days we had long rehearsals, or, yes, even chaperoning 6 unruly teenagers to a DIFFERENT COUNTRY, Pam was the absolute definition of commitment and above and beyond.

I was a student of hers and a teaching assistant for her many times. Never a dull or quiet moment! She helped so many find their love of music and left a lasting impression. Sending so much love to her family
