Obituary

MIDDLETON - Nancy M. Moody passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Nancy was born in 1942 to Earl and Vanessa (Haines) Moody in Richland County, Wisconsin and always thought of the rolling hills of the driftless region as home.

Nancy graduated from Viola High School in 1959. She also attended UW La Crosse and Edgewood College.  A lover of learning and a voracious reader, Nancy often had several books and novels going at the same time.  How she kept all of the characters, plots and settings straight, we will never know.

When her kids were school-aged, Nancy went to work in the insurance/medical field with WPS and EDS. Creating training manuals and working documents tapped into her organizational and detail-minded side, improving workflow and gaining her recognition.  But she was happiest at her last position working as an activities coordinator at St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo, Wisconsin.  Planning activities the residents looked forward to or creating opportunities to reminisce and sharing in celebrations great and small, was tremendously satisfying for her.

The greatest source of pride and joy were her children and grandchildren.  Nancy loved being a mother and grandmother, encouraging all to follow their hearts, dreams and wishes.  Discussions on current events, politics, nature, art, music and life were what she treasured most, especially with her family.  She delighted in hearing of their adventures of daily life, work, school/education and travel and she truly cared that they felt loved, happy and safe.

Nancy is survived by her children, Lisa (David) Boyd, Heidi Vetter, and Jonathan (Brenda) Vetter; and grandchildren, Ransom (Alex) Boyd, Zane Boyd, Levi Heilprin, Tabitha Vetter, Madilyn Vetter and Samantha Vetter. She is also survived by her sister, Marge Dustin; niece, Amy (Tom) Brei; nephew, Greg (Kathy) Dustin; and former, husband Robert Vetter.

Preceding her in death were parents, Earl and Vanessa Moody; sister, Mavis Moody; and brother-in-law, Roderick Dustin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace Inpatient Care for the loving care and attention provided to Nancy in her final days.

To honor her wishes there will be no service, but a private celebration of life will be held for the family at a later date.  In her final trip home, she will be laid to rest at Ash Ridge Cemetery in Richland County, Wisconsin.  Nancy will be remembered for love of her family, caring for her community and the planet.

To keep her memory alive, read a good book, be kind and care for all those around you.   If you choose, donations in her memory can be made to Agrace Foundation, Second Harvest Madison, Madison Reading Project or the charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

“A Cloud Never Dies….” When the cloud is no longer in the sky, it doesn’t mean the cloud has died. The cloud is continued in other forms like rain or snow or ice. So you can recognize your cloud in her new forms. If you are very fond of a beautiful cloud and if your cloud is no longer there, you should not be sad. Your beloved cloud might have become rain, calling on you, ‘darling, darling, don’t you see me in my new form?’ And then you will not be stuck with grief and despair. Your beloved one continues always. Meditation helps you recognize her continued presence in new forms. A cloud can never die. A cloud can become snow, or hail…or rain. But it is impossible for a cloud to pass from being into non-being. And that is true with your beloved one. She has not died. She is continued in many new forms. And you can look deeply and recognize herself in you and around you. - Thich Nhat Hanh
