Kathleen M Last

MADISON - Kathleen M. (McKoy) Last, age 61, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on May 1, 1961, at Great Lakes Naval Base, the daughter of Robert and Mary Alice (Kane) McKoy. She was married to Ronald Last on July 5, 1986, in Madison.

Kathleen graduated from Madison East High School in 1979 and received her associate degree in business from UW-Whitewater. Kathleen worked at the Plaza Tavern, Kmart, as a crossing guard supervisor and at MATC Bookstore.

Kathy was very involved with her sons’ schools.

At Emerson Elementary School, she was an active PTO member. She helped in the classroom, was a reading buddy for many years, helped with the Emerson Chess Club, and went on numerous field trips. She was the chair of the Market Day fundraiser for Emerson Elementary school for many years.

At Sherman Middle School, she helped in the classroom, with the band program, and went on many field trips.

At East High School, Kathy helped with some of the wrestling meets, she chaperoned several band trips to Disney and one band trip to Washington D.C. She helped with the band fund raiser And All That Jazz for several years.

Kathy was an active Boy Scout Mom and leader. As a Mom, she supported her three sons as they earned their Eagle Scout award. She also supported many other youths on their path to Eagle. Kathy learned additional leadership skills at Wood Badge. Then she used those skills in assisting with Baraboo Circus Heritage Days and the Backpack Camporee and to co-chair the All Scouter PowWow (now the University of Scouting). She helped train adult leaders at Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. How to run a campfire was her favorite thing to teach. Kathy was on the council advancement committee for many years and helped scouts work through problems as they worked toward their Eagle Scout rank.

As a volunteer at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Kathy helped with the children and contemporary choirs, chaperoned youth at choir camp in Michigan, volunteered at many St. Bernard Players shows, volunteered at the brat stand, volunteered at the parish festival, was a lead for one team of the Brinks Teams, participated with her husband as a FOCCUS couple for marriage preparation, and volunteered as a communion minister.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Ron Last; three sons, Robert and Dana (Gifford) Last, Daniel Last and Patrick and Jessie (Bell) Last; grandchildren, Lucy, Emerson, Lyla, Beckett and Austen; brother, Mike McKoy; and sisters, Theresa McKoy and Debra Hendrickson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Andrew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday.
