Joyce E. Spilde

MADISON - Joyce Elaine Spilde, age 96, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Cedarhurst of Madison. She was born on Dec. 12, 1927, in the Village of Dane, the daughter of William and Bertha (Hanson) Breggeman.

Joyce graduated from DeForest High School in 1946.  She was united in marriage to Howard Spilde in 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Joyce worked as an office assistant for WPS, retiring in 2015. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and proud supporter of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and Madison Masonic Lodge where her husband was a 33rd Degree Mason.

Joyce was an avid Brewers fan, passionate season ticket holder to UW hockey, and supporter of other UW sports. She loved traveling the world and going on cruises.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Scott (Jill) Spilde, Terry (Mary Kay) Spilde, and Timothy Spilde; and three grandchildren, Nate Spilde, Alex Spilde and Abby Spilde. She is further survived by numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; son, Craig Blaine Spilde; parents, William and Bertha; and brother, Warren Breggeman.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Madison Children’s Dyslexia Center or Agrace HospiceCare would be appreciated by the family.
