Eugene H. Rice

MADISON / CROSS PLAINS - Eugene H. Rice, age 83, of Cross Plains, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at Milestone Senior Living. He was born on May 15, 1940, in Madison, the son of Harry and Mabel (Moore) Rice.

Following graduation from high school, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge, he returned home and began his college education at Erie County Technical Institute, then transferred to Rochester Institute of Technology. Gene's focus of study was on Mechanical Technology. With these skills, Gene continued working with machines throughout his career, at Eastman Kodak Company, DoALL Machine Company, Red Dot-Frito-Lay, National Electrostatics Company, Rayovac Corp and then finally retiring from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. Gene strived to do his best with all that he did and took great pride in his work.

Gene loved life and lived it with flourish and zest. He was an avid photographer of nature and was proud to have had several of his photos published. Gene also had a passion for fly-fishing, camping, biking, and all things outdoors He remained fit and healthy, even while regularly enjoying his favorite flavor from Babcock Dairy.

Eugene is survived by his sister, Janet Vorndran, Haverstraw, N.Y.; nephew, Rick Vorndran and family, Haverstraw, N.Y.; niece, Paula Reestman and family, Mesa, Ariz.; and long-time friend, Lori Cirves and family, Blue Mounds, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel.
