Obituary

BLACK EARTH - David Lee “Dave” Clason passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, at home with his family by his side.  


Dave was born on April 16, 1947, to Virgil Lloyd Clason and Dorothy Arlene Huset-Clason. He was married on Nov. 6, 1971, to the love of his life, Bertha “Dale” Coppernoll. He worked at Milwaukee Valve Company for many years.


Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1965-1969 in communications. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 437 of Mazomanie and was the commander for 24 years.  


Dave enjoyed reading, walks, fishing, hunting watching the Brewers and Packers, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.


Survivors include wife, Bertha “Dale”; one son, John (Kelly) Miranda of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Tina (Tim) Heiney of Prairie du Sac and Tricia Clason of Mazomanie; nine wonderful grandchildren, Zachary, Emma, Kristina, Connor, Briana, Alyssa, Aubrey, Matthew and Jackson; two brothers, Roger (Beverly) of Prairie du Sac and Robert (Lavonne) Clason of Black Earth; two sisters, Judy Lingard of Madison and Julie Uselman of Black Earth; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Dave Uselman and Ron Lingard; and grandparents, Ellen and Otto Huset.


A funeral service will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Military Honors will be conducted following the funeral service at church. Friends and family who wish to view the service via LIVE STREAM may do so by visiting www.stjohnssaukprairie.org. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON BLACK EARTH FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1710 Center St., Black Earth, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022.  A Pass and Review with the American Legion Post No. 437 will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at church.
