Obituary
MADISON - Karen (Williams) Schultz, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 22, 1939, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Storey) Williams. Karen was united in marriage to her Monona Grove High School sweetheart, James Raymond Schultz, on March 1, 1958. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years.
Family, her greatest joy, meant everything to her. She was the nurturing, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that poets write about. Karen also enjoyed and cherished time spent with friends. She loved sitting around a campfire at the property they owned on Lake Arrowhead. Karen loved people and socializing.
During the 20 years Karen worked for the Madison Police Department as an elementary school crossing guard, she cared for many children. On the corner of Pflaum Road and Maher Avenue, passersby would witness scarves being tied, jackets being zipped, noses being wiped and children being safely guided across the street. Although retired for many years, she still remembered many of “her children.”
Karen is survived by her husband, James; son, Kenneth (Susan) Schultz; grandchildren, Joseph (Julia) Schultz and Jami (fiancé, Joseph Voldrich) Schultz; great-granddaughter, McKinley Schultz; brother-in-law, LeRoy Schultz; sister-in-law, Betty Williams; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Leo and Hildegaard (Zimmerman) Schultz; brothers, Raymond and Richard Williams; sister, LaRaine Dybevik; and brothers-in-law, Mort Dybevik and Walter Schultz.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
