FITCHBURG - Daniel James Wingert, age 48, of Fitchburg, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on Nov. 11, 1973, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of John and Bonnie (Coyer) Thelen. As a child, Daniel moved to Texas where he grew up and later relocated his family to Dane County in 2005.


Daniel married Jennifer White on May 14, 1999, in Las Vegas, N.V. He worked as a Vice President of Quality for Contrail Aviation for 17 years.  Daniel enjoyed being on the water on his jet skis.  He also loved to play video games with family and friends.


Daniel is survived by his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Ashley (Travis Meyer) Wingert; son, Daniel J. (Kennedy Silbaugh) Wingert, II; parents, John and Bonnie; brother, Barry (Cammie Deprospo) Wingert; and two sisters, Brenda (Nick) Anglada and Johnna (Capt. (ret.) Chris Wells) Wells.

A celebration of Daniel's life will be held at CHRISTY’S LANDING, 2952 Waubesa Ave., Madison. from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.


In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the charity of one’s choice in Daniel’s memory would be appreciated by the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Dan, there are no words to describe how sad I am. You always had a way of keeping me laughing. May you feel at peace💜 BTW, when I get there, you had better have your chest protection .. My Danny, could be the silliest boy. But I know you love us. Your taste in movies lacked greatly. Can not believe I agreed to watch the Human caterpillar with you a few years back. You are not the most graceful boy, always hurt yourself by walking into signs in the mall , tripping on the pool deck. We love you beyond belief and we will continue to hold you close in our hearts forever. I just wish you had made better choices and realize how painful this is. I will love and miss you forever.

Daniel has been a friend and colleague here at Contrail for 18 years. We would joke about all the different hats he would wear, seemingly a one man wizard, capable of taking on any task with speed and efficiency. Look up Multi-task in the dictionary and there you'll find a picture of Daniel. As tributes pour in from those in the industry, a common theme echoed by all is "Best records guy in the industry". We of course knew this already, in fact that's how I would introduce Daniel to guests touring our facility and that's how we toasted Daniel at small, private gathering of Contrail employees yesterday afternoon, "To Daniel, friend, colleague and best damn records guy in the industry!" There's a void here that no one will ever be able to fill. We miss Daniel terribly but as team and family, we owe it to Daniel to pull together and come out of this better and stronger, I promise we will. To Daniel's immediate and extended family, it was a privilege to know and work with Daniel, he's one of kind with no equal. I still cannot find words for this tragic loss and all I can do is remember all the wonderful times we had. When Ashley and Daniel were little y'all would come over for Halloween! There were many shenanigans in the backyard, bbq, beer, music that neighbors learned to like lol. Danny jumping on the horse bareback and falling off! Such good family times spent. I love you Dan the Man and will always have you with me. To Jenn,Ashley and Daniel Texas family love you I hope you know that. Reach out to us if you need to we are here. Danny, you had captured my heart and impressed me throughout the years of your amazing talents and such self-determination, your character held no limits and will always remember you as a great friend and awesome nephew and I'm sorry I was not with you in the time of your need.
