Obituary
MADISON - Gerald C. “Jerry” Whitcomb, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at Oakwood Village East. He was born on June 15, 1929, in Beaver Dam, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Gilbert) Singer.
Jerry graduated from Madison East High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Charlene Fredrick. They were the first couple to be married at Lake Edge United Church of Christ on Feb. 12, 1949. Jerry served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was active duty during the Korean War from 1952-1954.
Jerry was a member of the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow and an Eagle Scout. He was very active at the Eastside Club where he was president in 1972. He was also a member of the Madison East Kiwanis, Charter member of Lake Edge UCC and current member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
In 2011, Jerry participated in the Badger Honor Flight, a trip of a lifetime. He enjoyed travelling, listening to music, playing cards, golfing, fishing and watching sports.
Jerry’s life career was in retail management. At the age of 83, Jerry retired.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Amy Whitcomb; son, Jon (Janalee) Whitcomb; three grandchildren, Travis (Stacy) Whitcomb, Andrea Whitcomb and Melanie (Jeffrey) Stone; four great-grandchildren, Evalynn, Brynn, and Elise Whitcomb and Oliver Stone; sister, Gorthea (Ralph) Noll; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; parents; and brother, Robert Whitcomb.
A memorial service will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Oakwood Foundation-Employee Recognition Fund, Madison College - Charlene Whitcomb Memorial Scholarship or to Messiah Lutheran Church.
