MADISON / CROSS PLAINS - Emily M. “Em” Oyan, age 43, of Cross Plains, passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was able to give the gift of life by being an organ donor.
Em was born on Aug. 29, 1979, in Madison, the daughter of Mark and Diann (Rostermundt) Oyan. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1998 and from UW-Stout in 2003. Em was employed in patient services for Girlie’s Manor in Cross Plains. She worked very hard over the years to provide a good life for her son, Jack.
Em simply loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved time spent with her aunts, uncles and cousins at their Christmas gathering in Milwaukee and at her grandparent’s lake home. She was very compassionate, always wanting to help others, whether they were elderly or individuals with disabilities. This gave her self-fulfillment. Em loved Labrador Retrievers and had three of these loyal canines over the years, Angel, Maggie and Foxy. She had a love for music and shared this passion with her son. She was also an avid Badgers Basketball fan.
Em is survived by her son, Jackson Letcher; significant other, Matt Smith; parents, Mark and Diann; brother, Nicholas Oyan; and maternal grandma, Marge Rostermundt. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandpa, Robert Rostermundt; paternal grandparents, Donald Oyan and Arloween Oyan; and aunt, Jodi Onder.
A joint memorial service for Em and her mother, Diann Oyan, will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, with the Rev. Justin Dittrich presiding. Interment will follow at the church’s columbarium. A Celebration of Life will continue, on Sunday, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the EAST SIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison.
