I am truly saddened by the news of Russ's passing- my deepest condolences to you, Jeanne, and all of Russ's family. A better friend or brother can never be found. In all the years that I knew him only images of him smiling are in my mind. Never an unkind word nor vengeful action. T-shirt, jeans, looking out over the shores of Lake Mendota. Summertime. Gentle warm wind blowing in our face. May you rest in peace as peacefully as on that summer day... Don Campbell, Phi Omicron, 1970

Russ was always someone who was doing work behind the scenes, expertly doing so many things, and always humbly. He was a delight, fun to be with, and a total "mensch" -- our community has lost a load-bearing wall and a driving wheel..... THANK YOU, Russ, for ALL you did to make this world a better place every day.

I knew Russ from the time I was a small child because he was a friend of my oldest brother. My condolences and sympathies to the family.

Russ was my friend for years. Always, true, kind and compassionate to all. I met Russ early on in my rowing years. We raced often-- -and it was always great fun. He was an absolute gem and usually spouting his self-deprecating one-liners. I so wish we could have cloned him. The world needs more kind, genuine people. He was one. I remain grateful I got to know him, and his much loved wife who supported all his rowing adventures. Russ was my friend for years. And that was a gift. My sympathies to his family and all of his many, many friends. Respectfully submitted, Joanne Haas
