Obituary

DEERFIELD - Norbert  F. Saba, age 82, of Deerfield , passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022. He was born on Nov. 8, 1939, in Amarillo, Texas to Marian and Andrew Saba. On Oct. 30, 1999, he married the love of his life, Mary Bourenske.


Norbert worked for the Denny’s Corporation, Gisholt. When Gisholt closed, he stared his own business as a remodeling contractor. He enjoyed that career for 43 years before retiring in 2008.


Norbert’s hobbies were antiquing, fishing, and bowling. He was an active member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, where he served as a greeter/usher. He made many friends through the years volunteering at the St. Dennis Festival. Norbert was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4586. He was a Grand Knight and a member of the 4th degree.


Norbert is survived by his loving and caring wife, Mary; his brother, Thomas (Doris) Dunbar of Baraboo, Wis.; and his sister, Beverly Burr of Hastings, Minn. He is further survived by his wife’s family, Sue and Kenneth Helmke, Linda Schneider (Mike Phillips), Daniel and Ruth Varsho, Michael, Steven and Vickie Varsho, Randy Varsho, Jeri Varsho, Vicki and Leonald Brostowitz, Patrick Varsho, Gordon and Shirley Varsho, Sandy and Gary Kosmicki, Lee and Vicky Varsho, Tracy and Bill Gehrke; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Nobert was predeceased by his first wife, Carol; and his mother and father-in-law, Marion and Leo Varsho.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022. Friends and family who wish to view the Mass via LIVE STREAM may do so by visiting Norbert’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and clicking on the Live Webcast link at the time of the Mass. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday, followed by a lunch in the Parish Center.

Dear Mary...Please accept my deep sympathy in the passing of Norbert. I am a member of St. Dennis who saw and greeted you both at mass many times throughout the years. I recall Norbert had a fall and ended up using a walker. He always had a warm smile and friendly greeting. We attend mass online since COVID. We sold our home in Madison and live in a retirement community in Westport now. My husband has Alzheimer's now so we don't get to mass or any events at church anymore. I truly miss being present physically. Recently I saw you being a Eucharistic Minister and today I saw Norbert's obituary. You were always so friendly and seemed like such a good person. I wanted to let you know that I was aware of your recent loss and want to let you know that you both will be in my prayers. I hope to join in on the funeral on November 3rd.
