Obituary

MIDDLETON - Kathleen Mary Egstad, age 81, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022. She was born on Jan. 8, 1941, in Madison, the daughter of Herman and Eleanor (Boos) Hensen.

Kathy graduated from Edgewood High School in 1959 and then continued her studies at Edgewood College. She met her future husband, James Egstad, on a double date in high school. They were united in marriage on Aug. 20, 1960.

Jim’s career gave the family opportunities to live in many different cities within the United States, Sweden and Belgium. Kathy had an eye for art and color pallets and her home was beautifully decorated. She was a self-taught seamstress and was also a fantastic cook. She even had a few recipes named after her. Kathy was a member of JASNA (Jane Austin Society of North America) and the Middleton-Cross Plains Garden Club.

Kathy is survived by husband, Jim; five children, James Egstad Jr., Christopher Egstad, Jonathan (Cori) Egstad, Joshua (Crystal) Egstad, and Katherine Beschta; grandchildren, Anders and Ronan Egstad, Joseph Gorski Jr. (McKenzie Blohowiak), Ashley Gorski, and Brooke and Nicholas Beschta; great-grandson, Colton Gorski; brothers-in-laws, Dennis Egstad and Michael Predith; and sister-in-law, Yvonne "Bonnie" Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Eleanor; and brothers-in-law, Roger Jones and Bob Egstad.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Agrace HospiceCare, especially Lynette, Jody and Tonesha, for making Kathy’s final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.

I was so sorry and shocked to read about Kathy’s death. She was an Edgewood High classmate. Kathy always helped with our class reunions. She was fun, artistic, beautiful, intelligent and a very special lady. She always had a wonderful smile on her face. She will be missed. Rest In Peace.

I extend my heartfelt condolescences to Kathy's family. I was Kathy's classmate in highschool at Edgewood and was her friend on Facebook. We also both loved cats. Her mother colored my hair for our highschool musical. I was shocked to hear of her death. She helped with our reunions and we even met occasionally at her beautiful home. She was always upbeat and creative and will be sorely missed. May she be at peace.

Kathy was such a lively and gracious friend. I shall think of her every time I look at the wonderful dress and hat that she created for me when I co-chaired the JASNA Annual General Meeting in Milwaukee in 2005 -- she insisted I had to have a ball gown, and refused to accept anything for her work, because I was doing all the work to bring the Jane Austen group to Milwaukee. I hope to return to a live AGM next year and wear it again in her honor. She will be in my prayers. Sara Bowen, Fayetteville NC
