Obituary

MADISON - Betty Tibstra, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at the Agrace HospiceCare inpatient facility in Janesville, with her children by her side. She was ready to meet Jesus.

Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dean; children, Todd (Deb) Tibstra of Blaine, Minn., and Laura (Kory) Eller of Málaga, Spain; and five grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Tibstra, and Katie, Ben and Josh Eller.

Betty was born in Chicago, Ill. She married Dean on Nov. 14, 1958. They moved to Rockford, Ill., where Todd was born. After, they lived in Austin, Minn., where they adopted Laura. As a family, they made Waunakee their home for a number of years, where they made life-long friends. The "dollies" still got together regularly. Dean and Betty moved to St. Louis and then back again to the Madison area, living in DeForest and Madison.

Betty was a giving person in many ways. She served as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. She was also the church secretary at Middleton Baptist Church (now High Point Church) and Buckeye Evangelical, (now Door Creek Church) for many years. She had a deep faith, that was passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by many, and always a smiley, friendly face wherever she went. People say she was the kindest person they had ever known.

She loved her family, enjoyed being outdoors, and enjoyed her friends. Dean was an adventurer, and Betty was always by his side. They travelled around the USA, but also abroad, including many trips to Guatemala and then Spain (where daughter, Laura, and family lived), to the Netherlands, Mexico, Costa Rica and Peru.

Betty will be cremated. A celebration of life service will be held at the chapel at OAKWOOD EAST, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to One Challenge (Eller support account), onechallenge.org.

Betty was a wonderful friend as well as a neighbor for many years. For a time we had a Sunday night Bible study with her and Dean, and for awhile with the Hermans, who eventually moved to AZ. To her family we know this is a very special loss for you all and we express our sincere sympathy. She will be missed by many. I will miss our phone chats. No matter her challenges she remained an upbeat person who had a strong faith in the Lord Jesus. Howard and Carol Willson Saint Petersburg, FL
