Obituary

MADISON- Robert L. Call, 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at the BeeHive Homes of Oregon. He was born on Nov. 25, 1936, in Madison, to Joseph and Petronella (Grosse) Call.

Robert went to school at Madison Central High School, followed by an enlistment in U.S. Marine Corps, and then returned to Madison and joined the IBEW, local 159.

He had a lengthy career as an electrician, working for different contractors, retiring after many years with Electric Construction. Robert felt very lucky to be able to go to a job he loved doing every day.

He met his wife, Rose, in 1959 and were married that same year. Together, the couple raised three children in the Madison area. Robert and Rose enjoyed their many travels together across the United States. They went to almost all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Robert and Rose also enjoyed going fishing. They fished both in the summer and ice fished in the winter, and they even went deep sea fishing on their Alaska trip, where they each caught huge halibut.

Robert also owned a collector car, his pride and joy, a 1948 Dodge Custom Coupe “The Cruiser.” He took this car to many car shows over the years and won several trophies. On nice days when he wasn’t at a car show, you might catch him in his driveway washing and waxing his car.

Robert enjoyed time with family and friends. He had many friends from the collector car world. Robert also had a group of good friends he would meet at the Burger King for coffee a few times per week. He enjoyed his monthly retiree luncheons. Every year Robert would help count money for the Holiday Fantasy in Lights at Olin Park. He was always there to help his children with any projects that they had going on.

Robert was proud to hit two huge milestones in his life before he passed. He not only celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in 2019 but he also became a great-grandfather to four beautiful babies.

Robert is survived by his children: daughter, Bobbie Lou (James) Doyle and their children, Trenton (Lakshmi) Miller and Bryce Doyle; daughter, Kathleen (Mark) Robinson and their children, Daniel (Elisha) Robinson, Samantha (Theodore) Steiner and their children, Harrison and Daphne Steiner, Amanda Robinson, and Joanna (fiancé, Frank Bradley Bartleson) Robinson and their children, Raya and Ella Robinson; and son, Robert (Marybeth) Call Jr. and their children, Robert Call III, and Jacob and Brooke Heitland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose M. Call; parents; brother, William Call; and granddaughter, Melissa Robinson.

My guess is that Tim Stanek was there to greet him when he passed. Old car buddies always.

Bob will be missed as he was a long-time member of our coffee group from West Towne Mall to Burger King on Odana. He had some great stories to tell about Central High, Marines , family and his car. I am no longer in Madison and regret not being able to make the funeral service

Uncle Bob, Aunt Rose with Bobbie Lou Kathleen, and Bob jr., are part of my favorite memories of childhood. I think of their kindness and friendship often. These memories will always be a blessing for me.
