STOUGHTON / SUN PRAIRIE - Kenneth A. “Kenny” Comstock, age 67, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away from natural causes, on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022. He was born on March 19, 1955, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Kenneth Comstock and Marguerite (Rundio) Clark. Ken graduated from Stoughton High School in 1973, where he participated in track and field and cross county. Ken married Yia Thao on Aug. 11, 2001, in Stoughton.


After high school and a motorcycle trip across the country, Ken joined the military. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, then went on to join the U.S. Navy receiving numerous awards, commendations, and medals throughout his career. He served on the U.S.S. Midway during the Gulf War and on the U.S.S. Constellation for over 10 years as a BT1 Steam Propulsion Maintenance Supervisor and finished his career as a BT1 Correctional Counselor. He retired honorably, in 1994. He recently had the privilege of giving his wife and boys a tour of the U.S.S. Midway on a trip to San Diego.


Ken’s willingness to be there for his family is what gave him purpose. No matter how far he had to travel, or the inconvenience, he was there, rarely on time but always there with an infectious smile, joke, or the occasional sarcastic remark. He was always willing to help, often offering without being asked. His integrity and willingness to forgive and forget is what made Ken the person he was.   


Ken most enjoyed spending time with his boys, traveling, hiking and being outdoors. He recently spent a year traveling with his family in their RV. After returning to Wisconsin, he began his next adventure of remodeling a cabin to be their family home. Most important to Ken was his love and dedication to his wife and boys.


Ken is survived by his wife, Yia; two sons, Derek and Ryan; two sisters, Christine (Harvey) Zimmer and Sue (Duane) Nettum; six brothers, Randy (Nancy), Steven, Greg (Terri), Eric (Janet), Scott and Keith (Roxanne); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.


A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022. A private graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead.

I grew up across the street from Kenny and his family on West Street in Stoughton. We used to have so much fun. Lots of amazing stories I could relate, but there are too many. Kenny was a man of his word and a trusted friend. I remember seeing him one time at bar in Madison after he got back from SE Asia and he told me all about his time overseas. A true patriot and good person. Sleep good, Kenny. RIP

We were just in Hawaii and had a wonderful time. Ken was the best Hmong brother-in-law we could ask for. Thank you for loving and caring for all of us. We miss you.

I still remember my first conversation with Ken. I was at Yias apartment and she was in the bathroom when the home phone ranged. I answered and it was Ken but I had never met him or knew who he was. He said “hello who is this?!” I said, “I’m Yia’s sister, who are you?” He said, “ I’m Ken …what are you doing there??” And I was annoyed so I said, “I can be here!”….. and this was the beginning of a long love hate relationship between us. Over the years my brother Ken and I argue about everything from politics to the best way to cook bacon. There’s a running joke among my siblings that he is my parents favorite child . He’s everyone’s friend abs everyone’s favorite. He will missed so much…we will meet again Ken… May you Rest In Peace.

I didn’t know Ken well but what I saw and knew of him, he was a very dedicated loving husband and father to his wife and kids. He will be missed.
