Obituary

MADISON - Brett Michael Czerepinski, age 38, of Madison, died of cancer on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022.  He was born on Aug. 24, 1983, in Madison, and lived on the east side of Madison and in Monona.

 

Brett was passionate and extremely knowledgeable about skateboarding, street art, rock and rap music, indie games, glass blowing, gardening, and cannabis. He loved to laugh, eat spicy food, and show up casually late. He was rarely seen without his signature hat.

 

Brett is survived by his parents, Aleta Fingerson and John Czerepinski (Karen Ruud); his brother, Adam (Jennifer) Czerepinski; his nephew, Benjamin Czerepinski; his cat, Linus; and many close friends.

 

A private celebration will be held for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brett’s name to the Dane County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Hackey, my man… it’s been many years we haven’t been in touch, but those years you were in my life, you made such an impact on me. You were always happy and always smiling! I loved that about you. I have too many fond memories, but I would say my all time favorite was our ‘Hot Sauce Challenge’ days and the awesome footage we got of everyone 🤮, I still have that old video camera tape around here somewhere. I hope I can find it! When I did run into you this last year, I couldn’t believe you hadn’t changed a bit! I am so sorry for Brett’s family and for this tragic loss. You will be so, so missed, but I am glad you are no longer in pain. My youngest son reminds me SO much of you, so I have that to hold onto and I’m very grateful you were a part of the boys young lives… Cody ended up continuing skateboarding and Caden is an awesome artist. Your influence is a huge part of that, so thank you for that. I love you man, I will miss you and I hope we get to meet again one day…

Brett will always be remembered by our family as an extremely kind, talented, artistic, and uplifting young man. I am honored that Brett reached out to us during his illness. Sadly, we were unable to connect in person, but we were there in spirit. I will never forget the great memories we had, like watching fireplace videos and listening to music. We once stayed up late to study for a U.S. History exam, which of course, Brett aced!! One of my favorite memories was when Brett and several of his friends were getting ready for prom. They were all "decked" out with canes and top hats! They climbed up our roof and we captured unforgettable photos. We will truly miss you Brett and I still have the "gold rose" your family gave me on the fireplace mantle serving as a symbol of your love. You and Hannah will create beautiful art (and skateboard) together in heaven. Jenny Cox
