MADISON - William E. Nieft, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022. He was born on April 4, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., the son of William and Selma (Johnson) Nieft.
Bill graduated from Steinmetz High School and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. Bill was united in marriage to Janice (Bahl) on Oct. 20, 1962. He worked as an accountant for Wisconsin Power and Light for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
Bill enjoyed playing cards, golf, traveling, and having coffee with the guys. He loved spending time with his family and friends and the companionship of his beloved pets. He had a great sense of humor, was the original “dad joke” teller and seemed to be the one that laughed the hardest at his jokes. Bill loved movies, books and music. He loved a good steak and a great martini and enjoyed watching football on Sundays.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jan; daughters, Karen (Ron) Baumgartner and Carolyn Nieft; granddaughter, Shyanne Nieft; special nephews, Roger (Donna) Godel and Gary (Heather) Godel; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Selma; sister, LaVerne; and his son, David.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. A private family inurnment to take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park.
