Obituary

MADISON - Joyce Mary Huston, age 89, of Madison, passed away surrounded by her five children on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at University Hospital.

Joyce was born on January 5, 1937, in Dunn County, Wis., to Carl and Beatrice (Guyett) Thompson. Joyce graduated from Colfax High School and soon after married the love of her life, Clark Huston, on June 18, 1955. Together they celebrated many wonderful occasions throughout their 68-1/2 years of marriage.

Joyce’s greatest happiness came in times spent with her large family. She treasured camping trips when her children were young and enjoyed special international trips with Clark as they got older. She was an avid crocheter, loved to travel, and particularly loved to cheer on her favorite Badgers and Packers teams. Countless fall Saturdays were spent tailgating near Camp Randall, as well as numerous Big Ten stadiums she traveled to with Clark and her fellow passionate friends. Many of her lifelong friends were made through her years of proudly working for Oscar Mayer Company as a Benefits Coordinator.

Joyce shared with her family her love for many activities including snowmobiling, bowling, golfing and 5:00 happy hour! Her children and grandchildren will always have special memories of Christmas cookie decorating. She was a staunch supporter of her kids’ dreams and provided any assistance she could. We will miss her cheerful hellos and infinite love, but continue on knowing she instilled it in all of us.

Joyce is survived by her children, Michael Huston (Paula Harvatine), Jeffery Huston, Lori Huston-Dinga (Ron), Kristin Wahl (Jim) and Carla Huston; grandchildren, Matthew and Katherine Huston; Joshua (Stephanie Kind), Russell (Liz Brick), and Nicole Huston; Ashley Budde (Bryan); Sarah Ripp (Virgil); Haley, Kelsey, and Mackenzie Wahl; and Lucas and Benjamin Ortengren; great-grandchildren, Kira Williams, Wade and Kenny Budde, and Olivia, Owen, Megan, Anthony, Evelynn and Vincent Ripp. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Beatrice; her beloved husband, Clark; her brother, Carl Thompson (Ray); and her sister, Muriel Pick.

A memorial service will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with Pastor Lauren Wrightsman presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
