Clark D. Huston

MADISON - Clark Duane Huston, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital.  He recently marked his 90th birthday in a happy celebration with his family in December.

Clark was born on Dec. 23, 1933, in Rice Lake to Russell Huston and Florence (Fuller).  He graduated from Barron H.S. in 1951.  He attended the UW-River Falls, the UW-Madison and Madison College.  On June 18, 1955, Clark married his soulmate and favorite dance partner, Joyce Thompson.  Together they celebrated many, many wonderful occasions throughout their 68-1/2 years of marriage.

Among his greatest pleasures were times spent with family.  Being a 4-H leader, camping out, traveling, hunting, horseback riding, attending concerts and sporting events and always cheering on his kids brought him happiness.  He cherished his friendships made through 30 years at Oscar Mayer.  Lots of memories were made tailgating near Camp Randall, traveling to Big Ten stadiums, joint vacations and continual shared laughs.

Always active, Clark enjoyed golfing, bowling, snowmobiling and passionately rooting for his beloved UW Badgers and Green Bay Packers.  He frequently traveled the state and country to help his kids move, lend them a hand fixing something or just provide sound and trusted advice.  He will be missed so deeply, but he taught us to live on with courage, kindness and laughter.

Clark is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Michael Huston (Paula Harvatine), Jeffery Huston, Lori Huston-Dinga (Ron), Kristin Wahl (Jim) and Carla Huston; grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Joshua, Russell, Nicole, Ashley Budde (Bryan), Sarah Ripp (Virgil), Haley, Kelsey, Mackenzie, Lucas and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Wade, Olivia, Owen, Megan, Anthony and Evelynn.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Florence; and sisters, Lois Dale (Robert), Jean Flygstad, and Barbara Peterson (William).

A celebration of his life will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. with the Rev. Ken Schaub presiding.
