Jon Richard Walterscheit

MARSHALL - Jon Richard Walterscheit, age 86, of Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at Brookdale Senior Living-Sun Prairie. He was born on March 19, 1936, in Madison, the son of John and Hellen (Oncken) Walterscheit.

Jon graduated from Madison East in 1954. A very proud graduate of Ripon College, Jon was both an offensive and defensive lineman for their National Championship football team. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Royce on Oct. 14, 1961, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Jon retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as an officer in 1967.

Jon worked for AAA for 25+ years setting up service providers for AAA. In 1978, the three of them started an archery business in their basement, that grew into an archery distributorship and retail pro shop known as Little Jon's Archery. Little Jon's Archery won distributor of the year in 1994. Jon and Jackie also owned and worked their own beef cattle farm for many years, at one time having 100+ head.

Jon was a true outdoorsman. His burning passion was fishing with Jackie and little Jon. Their fishing adventures took them to Canada, to a house in the Florida Keys, and to the north woods in Wisconsin. Jon also loved bow hunting whitetails in Wisconsin with his family and friends, Tom and Barb Kilgore.

Jon is survived by his son, Jon (Jennifer) Walterscheit Jr.; brother, Tim (Peggy) Walterscheit; and two grandsons, Austin Martinez and Jon P. Walterscheit III.  Jon was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; and his parents.

A funeral service will be held at ST. PAUL’S LIBERTY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
