Obituary

OREGON - Susanne M. Cannon, age 87, of Oregon, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at the Villa at Middleton Village. She was born May 17, 1935, in Wittenberg, to Ivan and Margaret (Koeppen) Carey.

Sue graduated from UW-Oshkosh and married James Cannon on June 15, 1957. She taught Kindergarten in the Oregon School district for 33 years and never lost the ability to see the world through the eyes of a child. “I did it my way” isn’t just a song, it was the way Sue lived her life. Sue loved to travel and felt blessed to have shared so many trips with Kelle and her cherished Wisconsin Alumni friends. She especially enjoyed the Badger Football bowl trips, and her beloved Palm Springs.

Sue felt passionately about many things: her family and friends, education, Badger sports, intolerance, politics, and the state of the world. Sue was a champion for the underdog, and her amazing spirit touched many hearts. She will be remembered for her cheerful smile, and gentle kindness. Sue will also be remembered for her quick mind and as a great conversationalist. She had the ability to converse with intelligence, relevance, and humor. Sue leaves a legacy of acceptance, inclusion, inspiration, and kindness. She left an indelible mark on anyone who knew her.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Kelle of Sun Prairie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and her mother, Margaret Seefeldt.

At Sue’s request, a private burial will be held.

Memorials may be made to Save the Children, Oregon Senior Center, or the charity of one’s choice.

Afterglow

Sue Cannon was our friend -- always. Her obituary describes her perfectly. If ever someone wanted the best teacher for their kindergarten child, she was the answer. And here we are over 40 years later still feeling the loss of a friend. Our kids loved her. We loved her. And we cherish the friendship we had with her, Kelle and Jim. She was a blessing to us.

Kelle, I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Cannon passing. I had her for a teacher and I can tell you she was wonderful. Mrs. Cannon was such a kind person. She cared about every single student that she stood before. Always the professional , she would come to class everyday in a dress and made us learn while we were having fun . She would always give her best and expected us to do the same. She never forgot me and would always have time to talk whenever our paths crossed. The Oregon school dist. was so fortunate to have her. I was blessed with many great teachers during my school years. I wish every student would be lucky enough to have a teacher like Mrs. Cannon. Respectfully, Jim Snow.

Kelle, I am so sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She will be missed by many. If I remember right she was my daughter's, Karen, kindergarten teacher. Also a friend of yours while attending the Oregon School System and graduating from Oregon High School in the class of 1961. I lost Karen from cardiac arrest in April, 2021. I miss her.
