MADISON - James Richard Klongland, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022. James was born on Jan. 19, 1943, to Henry and Virginia Klongland in Madison, Wis.
James grew up in Madison, graduating from Madison East High School in 1961. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam, then worked at various employers in the Madison area primarily installing phone systems. He ended his career working for the City of Madison streets department. James enjoyed riding Amtrack and watching baseball during spring training.
James is survived by his sisters, JoAnn Lien of Oak Creek and Jane (Stan) Gudgel of Madison; brother, Jeff (MaryAnn) Klongland of Verona; brothers-in-law, Victor Schiro of Neshkoro and Steven Scott of Madison; and 14 nephews and nieces and 15 great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Klongland; sisters, Janice Schiro and Jean Scott; and nephew, James Schiro.
A gathering of friends and relatives will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5302 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022. A green burial will follow at NATURAL PATH SANCTUARY, 2299 Spring Rose Road, Verona, at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
