MADISON - Eva Ann Wright Buzecky passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wis., in the presence of her loving family.

Eva was born on Aug. 4, 1935, in Pierre, S.D., the daughter of Eva and Griffith Wright. She was married to Robert Conrad Buzecky on Oct. 2, 1959, in Dubuque, Iowa, where she had spent most of her childhood.

Eva was a graduate of Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and went on to earn her master’s degree in Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Her many musical skills included piano, organ, violin, voice, and conducting. She was a renaissance person, with deep ties to the Madison music community, including the Unitarian Church, where for many years she served as organist and conducted various choirs in the music ministry. To honor her long-standing commitment, the organ was dedicated to Joyce Wartmann and Eva by William Wartmann.

She also participated in or supported Gilda’s Club, the Unkalung Choir, the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Madison Opera, and various local musicals, such as Images of Labor.

Eva was a passionate environmentalist, devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother to her five grandchildren, Emma Buzecky (22), Max Buzecky (20), Quinn Buzecky (17), Gabriel Stone (19) and Michael Stone (17). She is survived by her husband, Robert Buzecky; her daughter, Danica Stone; and son, Larry Buzecky (Jennifer Buzecky). She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother, Bud Wright; and sister, Martha Sandau.

A memorial service for Eva Wright Buzecky will be held at the Atrium of the FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison, at 12 noon CT on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. Her final resting place will be at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison, Wis.

Such wonderful memories of Eva when she accompanied the Unkalungs. She always gave the most encouraging smiles. And what an exquisite accompanist. She made us sound good no matter what!!! I still recall the first time Eva and I collaborated on a wedding celebration some thirty years ago. She was both talented and gracious, and in subsequent years she was a fixture in the First Unitarian Society music program and there were numerous other opportunities for partnership. My memories of Eva go back more than 60 years to my first encounter with her in a German class at Northwestern I came to know her better through the early music ensemble directed by Dr. Ewald Nolte. Our paths have crossed frequently here in Wisconsin, most recently in the lobby of the Overture Center before MSO concerts. How grateful I am to have shared a part of her long and generously lived life. My deepest sympathy goes out to Bob and all of the family.

Eva nurtured my love of music, as she did for countless others. Under her guidance, my abilities blossomed and I became a more skilled, confident vocalist. I am so grateful she shared her passion and knowledge with me--I spent many happy hours in her studio. My heart goes out to her friends and family. We are thankful to have known Eva as a dear friend. She was a sensitive and lovely pianist, vocal leader, musical colleague and person.
