Patrick Michael Finley

MADISON - Patrick Finley, age 60, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born in Hillsboro to Gene and Deanna (Huston) Finley but grew up in Madison with his three siblings, Ann Finley, Dan (Lynn) Finley and Tim (Rae-Anne) Finley. He graduated from LaFollette High School in 1979. In 1984, he graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. degree in Psychology and in 1988 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a proud member of the swim teams in both high school and his college years.  

Pat married Barbara Steffen Finley on Aug. 1, 1987. They have two children, Sean (Danielle) Finley and Elizabeth (Kevin) Gawronski. Pat joined his wife at Morgan Stanley and served as Group Director of their team. Proudly, their children joined them in this business. His work family, including clients and team members, meant the world to Pat.

An active community and UW alumni member, Pat served as President of the National W Club and as a W Club member. He proudly served on the UW Athletic Board and was a strong supporter of the UW Swim program. Pat was founder of the March of Dimes Chef’s Auction, and served as Tocqueville Chair for The United Way. He also coached youth sports bringing him many lifelong friendships. He enjoyed biking, travel, history and was an avid Badgers sports fan.

A longtime member of Blackhawk Country Club and Countryside Golf & Country Club in Naples, Fla., Pat loved golf and the many friendships and laughter that it brought to him.  

Pat is survived by his wife, children, siblings, mother and a grandson, Beckham Patrick Finley. A granddaughter is expected in November. He was preceded in death by his father. Nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends will miss his support and love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Burial will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral and Cremation Care, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
