Violet Jean Zalewski

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I loved walking over to Auntie Violet’s house when I was a teenager. I was so much fun having my Great Aunt a couple of blocks from my home. She’s at peace and with my parents playing bingo? ❤️

I am a daughter of an Arbors resident (Roland Heinkel), who moved there 3 years ago. One of the first people we met was Violet, who was lovely inside and out. She offered advice and reassurance that everything would be OK, with a care and joy that calmed the rough seas of change. Almost every time I arrived to visit with Dad over the past 3 years, almost weekly, I would always see Violet out and about, tending to others, walking, enjoying the outdoors, laughing, sharing her music and love of polkas, just living life as fully as possible. Aging isn't for sissies, and she confronted it head on, pain, COVID, and all, with the gusto that each moment is precious to be shared with others and with her faith. I hope I can be like her when I grow up. About a month ago, I was leaving from The Arbors, and there she was again, downstairs with a friend, comforting her about an upcoming medical procedure, just as she had comforted us as we arrived. I overheard their conversation, and handed them a tote that had a picture of St. Barbara on it, which she knew instantly was the Patron Saint of medical procedures. She became animated with joy, "See, you don't have anything to worry about", she said to her friend, taking her hand in comfort. She knew everything was going to be just fine. Now that's faith and love in action. I know we don't get to take any material thing with us when we die, but maybe we get to take the Love we gave away in this life. Violet will be rich in the Love she surrounded others with during her life. The question is not whether there is life after death. The question is whether there is life Before death, and in dear Violet's case, she truly lived each day fully. To her dear family, we are sad we will not see her smiling face, but we think we can still feel her joy, just as when we walked in those 3 years ago, and pray that her effervescent warmth and love comforts you in the months and years ahead. Violet was the heart and soul of The Arbors, in Madison. She was personable, vivacious and active, and one fine person. Always ready to greet and assist, she represented the finest attributes one could have. Her kindness and willingness to serve others will be sorely missed. Violet was organization personified, carrying an arsenal of information in her rollator. Even when employees needed information, Violet had the answers! She was very respected. With a tireless work ethic, she was always busy and productive. She loved music, and polkas were her favorite. An impeccable dresser, we enjoyed that she wore different heart necklaces every day to match her attire. In her 9 years at The Arbors, she had risen to the pinnacle of being "The Grand Lady." She was active during COVID assisting staff with rolling carts of goodies and delivery of items. She was everywhere! She attended all functions, played cards, was a great Bingo player, and walked outside every day, weather permitting. Violet lived life to the utmost, and was a role model in the noblest of traditions. I think the Frank Sinatra song, "I Did It My Way" describes Violet's strengths. I am saddened that one of our great residents has passed away, but I salute Violet Zalewski for a life well-lived. She will be missed.
