Herbert Lyon

I had the pleasure of teaching with Herb at Black Hawk College and I learned a great deal from him. He was always willing to try new student focused methods of teaching and and he was an excellent mentor to students as well as other instructors at Black Hawk College. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching all levels of mathematics and considered himself a ‘recovering administrator’. That always made me laugh. I will remember him with great fondness and thanks. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. We remember the good times we have had together here at 7 Oaks and in Wisconsin at your cabin. Barry always enjoyed the visits with you both in LasCruses. Take care and God Bless. Barry & Pat Davison

Herb and I were good friends when we were graduate students in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 1964-68. We had the same first name and often took the same classes. We both had academic careers and kept in touch with Christmas newsletters. We occasionally met in person. Herb and Carol were kind and generous humanitarians and world travelers. I will miss Herb. Herb Hethcote, Professor Emeritus, University of Iowa.

Carol: What a lovely tribute to Herb and your family. It was interesting to read Herb was a Danforth Fellow. My father knew the Danforths and served on the Danforth Foundation Board. At least once our whole family traveled to Michigan when there was a board meeting. So many connections. Thinking of you and the family. Judy Ruehl Cole

Herb and Carol were our neighbors in Ashland. You couldn't ask for better friends to live next to you. Our children played together and we shared many fun times. We send our love and deep sympathy to Carol, Margot, Peter and their families. Love, Howard and Peg
