Obituary

MADISON - Jerry Borseth, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Meriter Hospital from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was born on July 9, 1944, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Blanche and Barney Borseth.

Jerry graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and UW-La Crosse. He was united in marriage to Marcia MacKenzie in 2001. Jerry and Marcia had 27 magical years of love, family, travel and dancing together.

As friends reading this will attest, Jerry was one in a million. He had a large presence in every room and made every person he spoke with feel special. If there was a person who looked unhappy or was left out of a conversation, Jerry made sure that he brought that person into the group. No one loved his family more than Jerry; he was fiercely loyal to each and every one of us, and we all loved him for it.

Jerry was kind, generous, creative and funny. He had a lifelong interest in science and never stopped studying its various aspects. He had a gorgeous tenor voice, with which he occasionally entertained patrons at the bar at Smoky’s. Jerry was also a gifted designer and builder. His unique home will remain as proof of his creative skills.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Marcia; sons, Eric (Lynda) Borseth, Doug Dallmann and Adrian (Shiva) Borseth; stepdaughters, Leesie (Matt) Hendrickson and Annie (Mike) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Carr Borseth; grandchildren, Mark and Megan Borseth, Isabella, Brigham, Lucian and Rowan Borseth, Logan and Ian Borseth, John and Cole Hendrickson, and Ellie and Sam Thompson; great-grandchild, Lucinda Borseth; brother, Bruce Borseth; brothers-in-law, Larry Powers and Jack Hess; and sister-in-law, Maryanne Borseth. He was preceded in death by his son, Adam Borseth; sisters, Karen Powers and Kay Hess; and brother, Tony Borseth.

I went to both grade school and high school with Jerry. His sense of humor always set him apart from everyone. He would analyze the head of a pin. I remember he and I played some chess in high school. He did teach me the game. He stopped playing with me when I checkmated him. He and I would travel up Granddad bluff with BB guns and shot them at each other. Always good memories and a smile when I think of him John A Hurley

After my diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease in 2015, I joined exercise classes. One of the first people I met was Jerry. How could I not? He seemed to be in every class! What a positive force Jerry was. At first I was down, but Jerry was an inspiration, always uplifting, always ready with a joke. Know that his memory lives on. He will not be forgotten. Jerry was funny, kind, fearless, and the best hired hand you could ask for! He worked on my parents farm when he was 12 years old till graduation. So many stories and good times. Never a dull moment when Jerry was around!! He was loved by many and will be missed by many friends and family. Heaven's a lot more fun with Jerry up there!! Marla Marti McCullough

I was a long time neighbor of Jerry's to include Macia.'s and the boys. In early 1980 Jerry tackled real old Willow tree which was in myfront yard. He only charged me $150. which may have cost me 100's but since Jerry was a neighbor and a kind hearted one that that. I always observed a project he was engaged in over the years especially the chimney on the E. side of the house. Jerry was well appreciated by the neighbors as he always had the up to date wish for our neighborhood. May Jerry RIP and my sincere sympathy to Marcia and the boys. whom I taught at Crestwood Elem school. Don Marx

I met Jerry several decades ago when our children were playing hockey together. It seems we all met the same Jerry - fun-loving, active, always ready to talk. I think it was in Belgium and a museum when I turned to my companion and said "That sure looks like Jerry and Marsha." And it was, same welcoming guy.

Dear Marcia, I was so sorry to read in today's paper about Jerry's passing. I don't know if you remember me, Mary Taylor's good friend and neighbor on Priscilla Lane. We crossed paths serving on the Madison Civics Club board. We have in common a husband who died from PD complications. Gordon passed away two years ago. What a nasty disease. I wish you well. If my memory serves me right, we had plenty of laughs together. Sincerely, Karen Tuffli
