Obituary

MADISON - Janet Leone (Steuer) Fumuso passed away peacefully on Monday July 18, 2022. She was born on July 11, 1928, to George and Leone Steuer in Milwaukee, Wis., where she was raised with her eight siblings.

Janet graduated from Milwaukee Vocational School with a degree in commercial art in 1950.  She met Walter Fumuso in college, and they married in 1952.  They moved to Madison, Wis., where they raised their family.

Janet was a devoted mother of Matt (Marilyn), Mary (Mark) Schuster, Robert, Lynn, Charles (Nancy) and Kathleen Schlieckau; proud grandmother to Angela Schuster, Emily (Brian) Fuerstenberg, Leta, Anthony, Gavin Schlieckau and Rollie Schlieckau; proud step grandmother to Gary and Joey Roeth; and proud great-grandmother to Kevin, Evelyn, Tovah and Peter.

Janet always had a lovely smile and gentle spirit.  She listened intently and graciously offered her wisdom.

Janet was a loving mother who brought art and gentleness to the lives around her.  As a professional artist she created murals and artwork for "the yellow pages” but her best work was in bringing the artist's touch to her family.  Janet loved to foster the artist in her children. She brought art to everyday life with magnificent cake designs, elaborate pumpkin carvings, holiday decorations, custom Christmas cards, and helping her children to discover creativity in their lives.

I have one very special memory of mom. Robert and I were married on her birthday back in 1981. She was as my parents for the next 37 years. She was so humble and kind to sit back and say it was her birthday. At the reception I didn't forget it was her birthday. I jumped and announced we were not the only ones having a special day and mentioned mom had a birthday and had a special friend come out with his snow bunny and lead us all in a happy birthday to her. She had a sweet and gentle way of welcoming me into her family. I just can't stop any of calling her mom.

Although I don't personally know Janet. I do know her son Bob who has shared a few things about her. I do know she raised a wonderful, caring and giving son. Rest in peace Janet. My condolences to your family.

I remember Aunt Jan’s beautiful and delicate feather stationary! Each page was painted around a gorgeous little feather to make an animal or item in life. Our mom, (Marge), received also an embroidered plaque of her name, mirrored, which at first you would see the design, then the name. The creativity of this woman knew no bounds! I was always so inspired!
