Obituary
MOUNT HOREB - Donald Eugene “Don” Moyer, age 89, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Ingleside Manor. He was born on April 1, 1933, in Dodgeville, the son of George and Helen (Poast) Moyer.
Don graduated from Barneveld High School. He married Barbara Moyer on July 21, 1956, in Ridgeway. Don had a varied career including owning a gas station, mechanic, furnace installer and LP gas truck driver. He retired as patrolman for the township of Springdale. In his retirement, he worked for Lust Auction Service. He also enjoyed volunteering for RSVP transporting people to their doctor appointments.
Don was a giant among men. His heart was so full of love for everyone. Family, friend, acquaintance, there were no lines drawn in his world. He treated everyone with the same respect and showed everyone the same love. He was patient yet firm, gracious yet humble, always giving and never taking. He never used the Lord’s name in vain….unless, as his partner, you played the wrong card during a hand of euchre. He was the best at “sneaking” those last three bites of dinner from his grandkids plates so they could get dessert. He will be so missed.
Don is survived by his son, Jeff (Tami) Moyer; two daughters, Jackie (Mark) Schmaus and Julie (Al) Miller; six grandchildren, Nathan Miller, Jon (Jessica) Miller, Jessica (Casey) Bingham, Addison Moyer, Austin (Ainae) Schmaus and Carson Schmaus; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Judy (Greg) Larson; brother, Gary (Patricia) Moyer; brother-in-law, Peter (Jean) Burns; and sisters-in-law, Sharon McCarthy and Shirley Moyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Moyer; parents, George and Helen Moyer; and brother, Richard Moyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, with Father Chahm Gahng presiding. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Mount Horeb. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday, July 18, 2022.
