Obituary

MONONA - Barbara Lynn Williams, age 62, of Monona, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Jan. 21, 1960, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Casey) Williams.

Barbara graduated from Monona Grove High School. She went on to further her education and earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Platteville and a master’s degree from Marquette.

Barb had an incredible work ethic. Before working in the IT department for the State of Wisconsin, she worked for Northwestern Mutual Life, and later, for American Family Insurance, as a computer programmer. She also taught math classes at Madison College.

Barbara loved going to craft fairs, working on sudoku puzzles, baking cakes for family birthdays, working in her garden, watching cooking shows, playing with her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, ziplining, and dancing. She was also a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. Barb was a big kid at heart and loved life.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Maryam; sisters, Deborah "Rae" (Russ) Struebing, Annette Duffey and Margaret Williams; nephew, Dan (Becky) Williams; nieces, Liz (Kevin) Eaton and Katie (Robbie Sanford) Duffey; great-nephews, Tony Williams and Ryan Eaton; great-nieces, Julianna Williams and Annabelle Eaton; and beloved animals, Jack and Gob.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward James Williams; mother, Dorothy Ann Georgeson; dad, Rodney Georgeson; and nephew, Raymond Struebing.

Barb’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lentfer, Dr. Huen, the Mayo Clinic (Rochester), and all the healthcare professionals that supported them through her 25-year battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Our Mothers were best friends throughout their lives. As such, Barb and her sisters, and I and my brothers knew each other very well as children. As we all grow older we move away and drift apart and are left with memories. As a fellow soldier in the labor exchange army of our youth I salute my fallen comrade and express my deepest condolences to the rest of the family. Scott and Mindy Billings.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Barb. We worked together and last I knew, she was going on a leave of absence. I was looking forward to her coming back. I always enjoyed working with Barb. I appreciated her "can do" attitude and kindness. She was so upbeat and positive, I never knew of her battle with cancer. I will really miss working with her and am sorry I won't get to see her again; I can only imagine how much her closest friends and family will miss her. My heart goes out to you all and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
