Obituary

MADISON - Maureen M. "Pepper" Hanuschewicz, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. She was born on Nov. 19, 1944, in Berkeley, Calif., the daughter of Maurice and Marian (DeCosta) Viramontes.

Pepper graduated from Leilehua High School in 1962. She married Nick Hanuschewicz on April 27, 1963. From then on Nick and Pepper built a family together and were inseparable. Time spent together included cross country road trips, laughing and being with friends or sharing a cup of coffee together in the living room or on their deck.

Pepper found joy in hobbies such as gardening, scrapbooking, and puzzle solving, and loved to color. Above all she was a loving wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Most importantly she absolutely loved spending time with her family. Pepper’s smile was contagious to all and those who met her whether for a brief moment or knew her her whole life would describe her as memorable.

Pepper is survived by her husband, Nick; children, Michael Hanuschewicz and Katherine (Kirk) Solberg; eight grandchildren, Justin (Cosmina) Hanuschewicz, Jordan (Chris) Hanuschewicz, Royal (Kayla) Rasmussen, Kara Hanuschewicz, Jessica (Jerry) Schmidt, Morgan (Casey) Johnson, Nicholas (Amanda) Chiono and Tony Chiono; mother, Marian Viramontes; sister, Charlene (John) Schembra; brother-in-law, Mike (Kathy) Kukawica; five great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Lynn Chiono; and father, Maurice Michael Viramontes.
