OREGON - FeLou Ann “Fe” McElroy, age 84, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on April 14, 1938, in Stoughton, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Alsa (Gullickson) Sawyer.
Fe graduated from Stoughton High School. She attended Carroll College and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Education from Edgewood College and her master’s degree from UW - Whitewater. She became a third-grade teacher and worked for the Oregon School District for 26.5 years, retiring in 2000.
Fe met George McElroy while she was employed at a Choses A&W Rootbeer stand in Stoughton and they were married on May 7, 1960, in Stoughton. Together, they enjoyed going out to eat, listening to live music and spending time with their family. Fe and George also spent many years traveling and camping throughout the state of Wisconsin and enjoying time at their cabin.
Fe was a member of Town and Country Women’s Club, St. John's Lutheran Church and Silver Threads, and a longtime member of the Bell Ringers Camping Club. She was very involved with the Oregon Senior Center and was the past president of the Council of Aging. She was also an outstanding cook.
FeLou is survived by her husband of 62 years, George; son, Kevin McElroy; two brothers, Guy (Rae Ann) Sawyer and Tom Sawyer; brother-in-law, Jack (Dorothy) McElroy; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters-in-law, Christine Sawyer, Arlene (Bob) Spink and Margorie (Zip) Zimmerlee.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
