Robert Leroy Olson

MADISON - Robert Leroy Olson, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Oak Park Place. He was born on December 15, 1934, in Madison, the son of Stanley and Beulah (Wong) Olson.

Robert married Shirley Fifield on January 1, 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a shop foreman for Madison Metro for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

Bob enjoyed his days fishing, listening to oldies music, working with his hands on countless projects, and selling pecans at the flea market-but most of all, he cherished spending time with his loved ones. He loved taking the family on pontoon rides, lighting fireworks by the lake every Fourth of July, and sharing laughter with everyone on those warm summer nights. Now, he is joyfully reunited in heaven with his beloved Shirley. Bob’s greatest hope was that his family would stay close and connected long after he was gone-and that’s a promise his family intends to keep, always.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Jose) Diaz and Susan Schmudlach (Frank Slike); son, Robert (Kay) Olson Jr.; sister, Penny (Steve) Shedivy; brother, Buford (Susan) Olson; grandsons, Jesse, Andrew (Jenny), Wyatt and Wade; granddaughters, Chelci, Elise (Daniel), Erica (Jaylen) and Carly; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Bella, Ada, Cruz, Hayes, Colin, Avery, Eowyn and Aurelia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Olson; parents, Beulah and Stanley; brothers, Buck Olson and Ronny Olson; sisters, Arlene Garry and Beverly Wolfe; and grandson, Jason.

A funeral service will be held at GRACE AND TRUTH BIBLE CHURCH, 109 Spring St., Cambridge, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with Pastor Taylor Camp presiding.
