Obituary
MADISON - Compassionate listening, careful instruction, generosity and perseverance only scratch the surface of how Scott James Mayer impacted the lives of so many. In turn, he was grateful and blessed by those he called family and friends. Scott experienced the joy of regaining his sight and health when reuniting with his sister, Kelly, in their eternal home on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
The self-proclaimed goody three-shoes attended St. Mary’s School where he met his partner in crime, John Weinrich, a true and lifelong friend. Fast forward a few years, while attending UW-La Crosse for physical education, Scott lost his vision. It was literally and figuratively a dark time for him. Thankfully an angel named Bill Heikkinen guided him out of the darkness. Scott was able to return to La Crosse to obtain a degree in elementary education. Upon his return to college, his dog, Max, tried to introduce him to Ann Marie. Scott was not about to be taken off course by a dog therefore, it took a couple years before Max could reunite them. They were later married and after 27 years of marriage, Scott still holds her heart. In January of 2006, Scott could not contain his excitement when they were able to finally adopt the girls he absolutely adored, Jamie and Stalina.
Even though never gaining employment in the school system, Scott went on to teach and influence the lives of many kids. As a Usability Analyst in IT, he found pride in helping all to navigate websites successfully.
His loving parents, Harry and Joanne; wife; daughters; sister, Tracy; brother-in-law, Ron Machaj; grandchildren, Jayden, Aleia, Aria; and many more will strive to move forward in his absence.
In lieu of flowers, Scott would want you to take time to teach a child, listen to a good friend and show kindness to a stranger. A celebration of life is forthcoming. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
