MOUNT HOREB - I am heartbroken to have to write of the unexpected death of my husband and best friend. Thomas Broeske, 64, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Irwin and Mary Broeske; and brother, Larry. He leaves behind me (Mimi); our son, Griffin; brother, Marty; sister, Barb; and his nieces and nephews who he all loved very much.

Tom was a gifted bassist whose passion was to share his deep connection to music with others. His quiet and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I can't begin to list all of the things I learned from Tom about music and life over the past nearly 20 years. His thoughtful presence and deep musicality will continue, as ever, to be a source of inspiration for me. Love to you, Mimi, and Griffin and Barb and everyone else missing him today.

Mimi & Family - I had the honor and privilege to perform with Tom numerous times over the years, most notably as the rhythm section for the "Chick Singer Night Band." It was somewhat chaotic learning a large number of songs for each performance, but Tom was the true professional and always came prepared. He effortlessly could switch his bass playing from rock to jazz to any number of musical styles, and I will always cherish the looks Tom and I would share on stage while we were having so much fun playing together. His love of music was infectious, and I along with many other musicians will always be grateful for Tom's presence in our lives. Thank you for sharing Tom and his gifts with us. Bob Boyd

When I crossed the street that night and heard that our friendly, soft-spoken neighbor of 20-plus years was gone, I was stunned. We had expected to see him relaxing with his family in the cottage garden for many days to come. We had heard stories about how as a musician he toured Europe, played with an opening act for a Funkadelic concert, and performed with the Spanic Boys on Conan O’Brien’s late show, among many other gigs. To us he was our good neighbor Tom, who used to bike and kayak and take contemplative walks around town, and who enjoyed wax beans from the garden. He’ll be missed.
