Gordon D. Behnke

OREGON - Gordon “Dale” Behnke, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 2, 2022, with his family by his side.  Dale was born on Feb. 2, 1932, in Madison, Wis., to Arnold “Bud” and Helen Behnke.  

Dale loved going up north with family and friends, hunting, camping and watching his beloved Packers and Brewers.  He attended Lodi High School and was a member of their football and boxing team, where he proudly earned his golden gloves.  He joined the U.S. Air Force in February 1949 and was deployed to Korea in June 1950.  Dale met and married the love of his life, Esther, at the Chanute, Illinois Air Force Base in 1951/52.  He proudly joined the Dane County Police Department in February 1956, serving his community for 29 years before retiring in 1985.

Dale is survived by his children, Brad Behnke (Deb Robson), Tami (Richard) Hassett, Kevin (Denyse) Behnke and Brenda Day; grandchildren, Mathew and Ashley Behnke, Grant (Kate) Jarvie, Brooke (Dan) Kafer, Ryan (Jenny) Behnke, Taylor (Morgan) Behnke, and Melissa and Weston Day; and great-grandchildren, Mia, Keaton and Charlie Behnke, and Joel and Kye Kafer.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
