Obituary

MADISON - Kathryn Elaine Cantwell, age 98, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Oakwood Village West in the presence of her family. She was born on Oct. 7, 1923, in Advance, Wis., the daughter of William and Cecelia (Bonnin) Mitchell.


Kate graduated from Shawano High School in 1941 and attended Carroll College. She married Roger Cantwell on July 9, 1943, and they lived in Shawano until moving to Madison in 1954. She was a longtime member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and was an active volunteer at both the Agrace Thrift Store and the Oakwood store. Kate loved reading and was an avid Bridge player, often playing while at Oakwood. She and Roger loved traveling on road trips, and together they visited every capital in the continental U.S. She was always very involved in her family's lives and accomplishments, and she loved attending her grandchildren’s events.


Kate is survived by her daughter, Mary Schara; son, Michael (Susan) Cantwell; grandsons, Dustin (Katie) Lowery, Jason Lowery, Nathaniel (Trish) Lowery and Christopher (Carrie) Cantwell; granddaughter, Darcy Cantwell; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Cantwell, Jr.; sister, Ione (Donald) Peterson; and brother, William Mitchell.


A private memorial service will be held.

Kay was a friend of mine for over fifty years or more starting back at Mt. olive then Oakwood I was a volunteer for some thiry years exercise class, and then just being a friend I would call her often, she was a wonderful person so lovely she lived a long life, did she die of natural causes? I will donate to All grace in her memory. Nancy E Foerst
