Obituary
DEFOREST - It is with great sadness we announce that on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Sue Ann Linda (Randall) Hubanks peacefully passed away surrounded by her family at UW Hospital in Madison, Wis., after a brief illness.
Sue Ann was born in Madison on March 8, 1951, to Harry Randall, Jr., and Pearle (Amble) Randall.
She grew up on Madison’s East Side and attended Robert M. Lafollette High School only to find out, while a junior, she lived in the Monona School District. Sue Ann had to transfer her senior year to Monona Grove High School where she graduated in 1969.
Sue Ann started her working career as a court reporter, eventually leading to a career at Ohio Medical Products, now GE Healthcare. There she met Mark Hubanks. They were married at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on July 9, 1982. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University Sue Ann searched for a new career path. In 1992, Sue Ann started working for the University of Wisconsin in various project assistant roles that included the School of Dairy Science, School of Pharmacy, the Fusion Lab where she met and worked with Harrison Schmidt, one of the last two men to walk on the moon. From there Sue Ann transferred to UW Hospital at the Madison campus, working in the Patient Bio-Information Group. She loved working at the hospital with all the students. In 2016, Sue Ann retired from the University of Wisconsin where she had proudly worked for 24 years.
Sue Ann had a great love for the arts, theatre, music, flower gardening, painting, and watching or attending Badgers and Packers football games and old film “noir” movies. Her favorite movie was “Casablanca” with Humphrey Bogart. Sue Ann and Mark loved to go to Spring Green to attend American Players Theatre or local nights at The Shed to watch Mark’s band play. It was their second home with so many friends there who always made them feel welcome.
Sue Ann and Mark loved to travel and spent many vacations at Longboat Key, Fla., just to relax on the beach or to just take day trips around Wisconsin. One of her favorite trips was to just hop in the car and go to Lambeau Field for lunch and browse around the Pro Shop.
Sue Ann is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mark Hubanks of Deforest, Wis.; daughter, Jennica Stein of Madison, Wis.; granddaughter, Jacinda Stein; brother, Kevin (Patricia) Randall of Sun Prairie, Wis.; sister-in-law, Susan (Harry III) Randall of Waunakee, Wis.; mother-in-law, Anita (Bud) Hubanks of Madison, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Lee Ann) Hubanks of Plano, Texas, and Greg (Sue) Hubanks of Sauk City, Wis.; sister-in-law, Barb (Reed) Bearden of Marietta, Ga.; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Randall, Jr. and mother, Pearl (Amble) Randall; brother, Harry Randall III; father-in-law, Bud Hubanks; and first husband, Dennis Stein.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at UW Hospital for their kind and caring help provided to Sue Ann during these last few weeks. We especially would like to thank the nurses in TLC on B3, room 16, for their round-the-clock care for Sue Ann. You were a blessing, not only to Sue Ann, but also to our family in this difficult time.
Sue Ann believed in eternal life in heaven after physical death. She also believed that no one gets to heaven by being a good person, doing good works, or someone doing good works on her behalf. Instead, she believed what God, who created her, said in His word, the Holy Bible - “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. Sue Ann had faith that Jesus led a perfect life and died for all the mistakes she made and that is why she believed she would be in Heaven. Sue Ann hopes to see you in Heaven someday. Although we grieve, Heaven rejoices.
A celebration of Sue Ann’s life will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 734 Holy Cross Way, Madison, on Friday, June 24, 2022, with Pastor Mark Bartels presiding. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
