Obituary

MADISON - Thomas J. Webb, age 63, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 29, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1958, in Milwaukee, the son of William and Elizabeth (Ronan) Webb.


Tom graduated from Marquette University High School in 1976, then continued his studies at Marquette University, graduating with a Biomedical Engineering Degree in 1981.  While in college, he met his beautiful young bride, Carolyn Carter, and they were married on Feb. 26, 1983.


Tom was a man of great passion, first and foremost for his Catholic faith and his family. He was actively involved with the Opus Dei Catholic organization which guided the way he lived his life. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and serve those in the surrounding community. He loved spending time outdoors, was a skilled woodworker, and especially enjoyed working on projects in the garage with his grandchildren. Tom lived every day to the fullest and made an impact on everyone that he met.


Tom is survived by his wife of 39 wonderful years, Carolyn; seven children, Laura (Jordan) Schwarze, Samuel (Elizabeth) Webb, Mathew Webb (Joy Rouches), Margaret (Jay) Mitten, Sarah (Zach) Lonsky, Michael Webb and Peter (Haley) Webb; grandchildren, Layla, Logan, Carter, Jackson, Evelyn, and Kase; five sisters and two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, with Father Scott Emerson presiding.  Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday.


Memorials may be gifted in Tom’s name to Opus Dei, c/o Layton Study Center, 12900 West North Ave, Brookfield, WI  53005. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Tom and I had recently started working more closely on a project. I really enjoyed getting to know him to the extent I did and only wish I could have more. My deepest condolences to the Webb family and his often referenced "young bride", Carolyn. I hope that in your sorrow you find a smile here and there when remembering him.

Roger and I are shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. Carolyn and family, we have such fond memories of Coach Webb! We were just reminiscing about Tom's goal for Ben make at least one basket during his middle school basketball career. Tom jumped so high when Ben made that basket, that we were afraid he might hurt something ;-) We think that moment represents the way Tom lived his life - filled with faith, love and joy! Tom, you will be missed!

Oh, Tom! I will miss you! You were always a spark of light with the LUNAR group, where you worked with me for many years. We've emailed/texted several times since you left. I will miss those occasional moments. Tom was such a great spirit. He was always so kind, generous, and dedicated. His last day of working at LUNAR, he gave me a gift of departure ... Miniature Roses in a lovely container. I was totally taken by surprise. How kind he was. Also, the picture of me with the UW Badgers in the Badger locker room was used by Tom in most of his Bone Density presentations as an example of the difference in body mass. Our Engineering team will miss you. I'm truly lost for words. Tom and I are 5 months apart in age. My heart is heavy. My love to the family. Connie Swed
