Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Cheryl Rae Rinabarger (Nana / Aunt DeeDee), 71, of Mount Horeb, was called to heaven on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Her long and courageous battle with cancer came to an end surrounded by family and loved ones in the TLC unit at UW Hospital, Madison.


Cheryl was born on Aug. 18, 1950, to Ed and Shirley (Smith) Lindroth. As a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Horeb and resident of town, she was an active citizen and volunteer throughout her life.


On June 21, 1975, she married the love of her life, Rex Rinabarger. They happily spent the next 46 years and 11 months together raising a family and making a loving home. Cheryl was a dedicated wife, friend, mother and grandmother. She was always on the sidelines at any/all events cheering on her family. Her love of gardening, butterflies, quilting, tractor pulling, and her friends, especially her bowling LADIES and coffee “club,” were apparent to all who knew her.


Every Thursday for years she spent the day making quilts with her mother, Rose Klir, Maxine Johnson and all her friends for Lutheran World Relief. And us children had our fair share of hours with the “quilting ladies” growing up.


Cheryl is survived by her husband, Rex Rinabarger; three children, Derek (Kaitlin) Rinabarger, Dale (Kristin Rokus) Rinabarger and Christine (Patrick Smith) Rinabarger; three beloved grandchildren, Naomi Coenen, Reid Rinabarger and Ruby Rinabarger; sisters, Lois (Al) Martin and DiAnne (Jerry) Stamn; as well as her loved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Shirley Lindroth; brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Foye; niece, Patricia Norland; and nephew, Todd Martin.


A funeral service will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, with Pastor John Twiton presiding. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Mount Horeb. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.


Cheryl will always be known for her strength, loyalty, religion, love for her family, and her devotion to the Brewers…Go Crew!

I got to meet Cheryl and her family when my Brother pulled with Community Action Antique Pullers. My sympathy goes out to Rex, Christine and the rest of the Rinabarger family.

Cheryl, You will be forever missed and never forgotten. I have fond memories as a young boy of all the times we spent in Mt. Horeb with the Lindroth & Martin family. After many years of bowling together, Cheryl and I met for coffee and breakfast most Wednesday mornings at McDonalds. I will really miss those get together, but know she will still be with me in spirit. I find myself talking to her even now. May she rest in peace. Merita Berryman
